ToggleGreen Key in Seville
Seville is one of Spain's most visited cities, receiving over 2.8 million tourists annually. Green Key in Spain is administered by ADEAC (known locally as Llave Verde), which has operated the programme in Spain since 2013 under the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).
Andalucía's Sustainability Context
The Junta de Andalucía's SICTED (Integral System for Quality Tourism in Spanish Destinations) operates alongside Green Key across Seville. Several certified venues hold dual recognition under both programmes — a pattern specific to Andalucía's regional tourism governance.
UNESCO & Heritage Overlay
Seville's historic centre, Alcázar, and Cathedral form a UNESCO World Heritage Site (1987). Several Green Key certified venues are located within or adjacent to the heritage zone, creating a unique intersection of conservation obligations and sustainability certification requirements.

Governance Context
Seville's Green Key landscape is shaped by Spain's national operator ADEAC, Andalucía's regional tourism quality framework, and a UNESCO heritage overlay that affects how several certified venues approach sustainability. Understanding all three layers is key to interpreting this dataset.
This dataset covers venues with verified Green Key certification as administered by ADEAC Spain. Venues holding only EcoStars, SICTED, ISO 14001, or Biosphere-level certifications are not included unless they also hold Green Key. The Meliá and Gran Meliá properties in this dataset are EarthCheck + EcoStars certified — they are included where Green Key (Llave Verde / ADEAC) certification has also been verified.
Green Key Criteria Areas
All 13 criteria areas assessed during the annual certification audit. Establishments must meet all imperative requirements and a minimum number of guideline criteria that increases with years of participation. Current framework valid 2022–2026; updated criteria take effect October 2026.
